47 Great Marlborough Street
47 Great Marlborough Street
Built as a private house in 1710-11 this Georgian townhouse did originally feature a lush garden on the back and is located on the wide Great Marlborough street which was regarded as a high-class street in Soho on par with architecture with a stature of the buildings on St James’ and other prominent neighbourhoods.
The building has suffered a multitude of unsympathetic alterations mostly stripping away the historic interior and replacing it with modern 70s-80s style tired furnishing. We were given the opportunity to develop and reshape this Georgian gem to a vibrant multi use building hosting the all new South American restaurant Sucre in the ground and basement floors and offices on the upper floors as well as a single residential unit with a roof terrace including a plunge pool. The entire back building also hosts lush greenery on the façade as well as a proud Holm oak on the terrace and the roof is crowned with a biodiverse meadow inspired garden. We also chose to enhance the historical qualities of the building by changing the existing modern roof extension into a more classical dormer style roof as well as reinstate the original light wells and refurbish the façade with a traditional lime wash.
